Oh the Places You'll Go: Cache River by Touch of Nature
The spring thaw brings opportunities for SIU students and the general public to enjoy daytime excursions as well as learn about some of the most beautiful natural places in Southern Illinois. SIU’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center hosts “Oh the Places You’ll Go.”
Saturday, April 4 participants will paddle along the fragile ecosystem of the Cache River. Transport yourself back in time as you glide through the duckweed and 1,000-year-old cypress
trees along the hidden gem of Southern Illinois. Examine the unique history of America’s
northernmost cypress swamp. Discover why more than 100 endangered or threatened species
call it home, and learn how its history flows throughout the region.
The Cache River trip is $10 for SIU students and children under 12, and $20 for those 13 and older. A 14-passenger bus will be available in front of the SIU Student Center on all these dates and will leave promptly at 9 a.m., returning after the conclusion of each program. Participants are also encouraged to carpool. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Call Touch of Nature at 618/453-1121 for more information and to preregister.
